Microscopic Digital Print Devices

The Vienna University of Technology's Invention is Nothing Big

Researchers at the Vienna University of Technology created a printer which molds sculptures on a microscopic scale. The printer uses a laser beam focused by "movable mirrors and leaves behind a polymerized line of solid polymer" to harden a liquid resin, according to scientists and engineers from the Vienna University of Technology. By hardening this liquid resin in precise spots, shapes can be constructed on the scale of nanometers.

Although one would need a high-powered microscope to see the prints, most people should be impressed by the Vienna University of Technology's invention. The fact that humans can now create tiny sculptures that bacteria could stand around with wine glasses pretending to appreciate, is truly astounding.

The printer is also very fast. It produced the printing features here in only four minutes.
