Shop Owners Band Together to Save Themselves and Begin Video Store Day

While it's clear that movie rental giants like Blockbuster collapsed due to the competing success of Netflix and Hulu, the forgotten tale is of family owned, brick-and-mortar retailers who went down as well -- Video Store Day is for those families and small businesses.

You might see it as fair that Blockbuster, Borders and other "analog" content providers went down -- I don't have much sympathy for monopolies that refuse to change, either. But what about the small, independent stores that used to populate every small town and city block? They were left behind, not because of rigid corporate structures, but because they didn't have the funds to build a robust online presence. Video Store Day is meant to remind us of those businesses.

If you've got a spare $10 bill, why not rent a copy of Ace Ventura or Evil Dead 2...for old times' sake!
