Massive Urban Solar Farms

Carlo Ratti Associati Works on an Impressive Bid for the World Expo 2030

Rome's bid to host the World Expo in 2030 turns out to be quite impressive with a proposal of what could be the world's largest urban solar farm. The proposal, featuring "hundreds of square-shaped energy trees," is orchestrated through a collaboration between Carlo Ratti Associati, architect Italo Rota, and urbanist Richard Burdett who are also enlisting the help of engineers Arup and Systematica, and landscape designer LAND.

The creatives envision the colossal urban solar farm to power the exhibition site with Rome, entirely with renewable energy. Because of its focus on sustainability and its sheer magnitude, it is not hard to imagine that this design will be one of the top contenders. The project master plan situates the urban farm in Rome's Tor Vergata district.
