Paraplegic-Friendly Trikes

These Unique Trikes Let Paraplegics Enjoy Full Body Exercise

The TheraTrykes are unique trikes, developed by students at Calvin College in Michigan, that are designed to offer both upper and lower boxy exercise to paraplegics. The contraption is targeted towards people with multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries and complete paraplegia, and lets them use their hands, feet or a combination of both to propel themselves forward.

These unique trikes are intended to function as both therapeutic as well as recreational vehicles, and allows people with limited use of their legs to get outdoors and get some exercise. Even if riders are only able to use their arms, the bike moves the lower body around and gives motion to the legs, which would otherwise be motionless.

The Theratryke will first be trialled on in a hospital, before being further developed.
