The Underwater Waterfall is a Visual Illusion of Wondrous Proportions

At the southwestern tip of Mauritius, an aerial illusion of an underwater waterfall is a stunning depiction of the island's majestic beauty.

Created by a combination of silt deposits and run off sands, as well as a mixture of turquoise and white, the sea seems to cascade into the depths just off the coast as if some massive vortex is sucking water below. The concoction of colors seems to blend and waver in creating the waterfall effect. The underwater waterfall is merely a trompe l'oeils, but the natural wonder is breathtaking and mesmerizing in equal measure, if only because the eye cannot discern the natural composition as merely illusory.

Mauritius has a population of just over 1.2 million. On the west and southwestern sides of the island, the island is an adventure playground for outdoor lovers. The coast is also famous for the dolphins that come to the waters to rest and breed.
