Turbine Powered Speedboats

The Squirt2 Jetboat

What do you do if your regular old speed boat is just not fast enough? Why, not try adding a helicopter turbine? That's exactly what the innovative thinkers at NYE Corporation have done. According to their website, the Squirt2 Jetboat uses a surplus US Air Force T58-GE-8F helicopter turbine that weighs 350 lbs and produces 1,370 hp at 6,000 rpm (or about 1,200 lb-ft of torque!). And it even sports an afterburner!

To hold this beast, they didn't just use "your father's fishing boat" either, to paraphrase an old car commercial, but instead used a 23ft race boat built by Eagle Power Boats. Judging from the photos, it looks like this thing can really move!
