TREK TRACK is a Smart System That Improves Hiker Safety

TREK TRACK is the name of a system that's designed to enhance safety for hikers. Although we live in a hyper-connected world, areas that lack a connection to the Internet are still widespread and pose a great risk for those who cannot immediately call for help.

In order to remedy this, TREK TRACK was developed as a system that would use solar battery technology and smartphones to decrease hiker accidents. On trails, a "mesh network" could be created, powered by wireless terminals that use smartphones to log a hiker's checkpoints. With this system in place, it would be much easier for search and rescue missions to be executed in the case of an accident or missing person.

Along with TREK TRACK, of the other inventive IoT prototypes that HACKist will be showing at SXSW 2016 include an app that gamifies snow shoveling, a dog collar that visualizes emotions and tables that give inanimate objects the ability to come to life.
