Cozy Tipi Lamps

These Tent-Shaped Illuminators Exude Warmth, Imagination and Tradition

Inspired by the old Wild West, one designer dreamed up these contemporary Tipi Lamps. With the goal of making an antique aboriginal symbol relevant to the modern home, Javier Herrero constructed this miniature model with a hybrid aesthetic.

Solid beechwood was cut and sanded by hand to create a broad tripod structure with the three tips crossing at the top. Enclosing this is a cloak of Spanish wool felt that acts as a warm diffuser of the light within. To decorate the teepee-esque illuminators, the maker chose authentic North American native patterns to be embroidered into the material. These motifs were kept minimal for a more present-day appeal. It may not be immediately obvious to the adult onlooker but these conical Tipi Lamps were also intended to spark the imagination of children.
