Tiny Robot Performs Medical Treatment

The researchers from Ritsumeikan University and the Shiga University of Medical Science created a tiny robot prototype that can execute medical treatments and capture images of affected areas once placed inside the body during an incision. It measures 2 cm (0.8 inch) in length and 1 cm (0.4 inch) in diameter. It can also be controlled through the body by using an outer magnetic field applied close to the patient.

Implications - There are currently five different prototypes of this incredible machine that have different functions such as delivering medicine and taking tissue samples. The doctors can see what the minibot is up to via computer and cables. The cables that are attached to the robot are important because if something goes wrong it cannot get lost inside someone's body.
