Further adding to the mystery is the fact that this swimming hole, now a popular swimming location, was once used to carry out human sacrifices hundreds of years ago.

'Swim: The Water in Between' is the work of New York-based photographer Francine Fleischer. The series is on display at Gallery Tanto Tempo in Kobe, Japan from May 10-June 22.
