Half-Moon Homes

The Crescent House by Shigeru Ban Architects is Out-of-this-World Beautiful

The Crescent House by Shigeru Ban Architects is an elevated curved structure that is modeled after the waning shape of the moon in South Hakone, Shizuoka, Japan.

To enter the home, one must ascend the stairs from ground level to enter the spacious hollow of the crest. The widest middle holds the open-concept living room and kitchen that looks out on the greenery through a wide glass window. The view is fixed towards Mt. Fuji as the bowl nature of the place blocks out all east, west and south directions. The home has two bedrooms, each on either side of the curved structure, acting as bookends to then pale white structure in the midst of its lush surrounding.
