The Crane Lamp augments a classic mechanical design known as the Jacob's Ladder in order to gracefully provide the perfect intensity of light. The playful lamp concept folds up to a compact size, but when extended it reaches dramatically up and over spaces to illuminate whatever one needs.
The lamp, which was designed by London-based studio Animaro, comes in two sizes: one that serves as a desk lamp and a taller option for a floor lamp. Both sizes are constructed with the exact same design (albeit on different scales.) The lamps comprise 26 hardwood slats that bind to one another via hinges.
Whereas normal Jacob's Ladders extend straight upward, The Crane Lamp dips forward in an arc thanks to slight variances in the lengths of the slats. This dip allows one to aim the attached, exposed Edison bulb directly at the target.
