Limitlessly Layered Homes

The Cosmic House Features a Mixture of Closed and Open Spaces

Japanese studio UID Architects have designed the 'Cosmic House,' a home characterized by its overlapping layers.

The layers create a series of open and enclosed spaces -- for instance, terraces that extend inside and living rooms that open outwards -- achieving an intimate relationship with the home's environment. Architect Keisuke Maeda explains, "The ever-changing nature of humans, plants, land and climatic conditions reminds us that nothing stays the same forever. My interest lies in spaces where one may perceive these changes, which are like the heartbeats of nature, in the course of daily life."

The rooms within the homes are shielded by rectangular arches; some of which are enclosed in glass, others which are left open to create terraces.
