Telescope Innovations Corp. has reached a milestone in its lithium recycling technology by successfully isolating lithium from battery waste. Using its ReCRFT™ process, the company converted the captured lithium into battery-grade lithium carbonate, suitable for producing cathodes for both lithium-iron-phosphate and nickel-based batteries.
This breakthrough demonstrates the flexibility of the ReCRFT™ process. It addresses a significant challenge in battery recycling: efficiently recovering valuable lithium from black mass waste, which can account for 16% to 55% of a battery’s total metal value. The achievement marks a significant step toward more sustainable sourcing of battery materials.
"We set out to build a new pathway for battery recycling that is compatible with the scale and technoeconomics of the challenge," explained Dr. Jason Hein, Telescope CTO.
