Folk Rebellion Launched with a Tech-Free Retreat Focused on Unplugging

To officially launch their new lifestyle brand, which focuses on the mindful use of technology, Folk Rebellion collaborated with Urban Cowboy to create a tech-free retreat. The Brooklyn-based event had participants turn over their smartphones for a 24 hour digital detox. Giving up wifi was also part of the plan for the brave New Yorkers looking to reconnect by unplugging.

Folk Rebellion founder Jess Davis, her business partner Rachel Greenstein and Williamsburg B & B Urban Cowboy believe in "human connection and slowing down to enjoy the moment and the company you are in." Tech-free retreat guests were given real keys to their rooms (not card keys), paper pads, pencils, disposable cameras and analog alarm clocks (set for 7am). In addition to enjoying fare catered by The Meatball Shop, event attendees listened to records, made arts and crafts, played trivia and went for a late-night hot tub dip.
