Sustainably Transformed Tech Headquarters

Google's New Chicago Office Will Be More Ec-Friendly

Google is preparing to transform its tech headquarters in Chicago into a building that will align with the latest sustainability standards and technological requirements while also maintaining some of they key aesthetic cues of its current iteration which was designed back in the 1980s.

The James R. Thompson Center renovation will be handled by none other than the architecture firm of the late Helmut Jahn, who designed the original building. Some of the concerns that prompted the renovation proejct included the fact that the building's window structure makes it inefficient.

Accordingly, the building will feature new internal mechanisms as well as facades. "The new triple-pane glass exterior will improve both the thermal performance of the building and the comfort of those inside by requiring less energy to heat and cool," Google revealed in its announcement. "Additionally, it will modernize the way the building looks, and maximize natural daylight and views."

The transformed tech headquarters will feature more retail and food spaces, with the project set to take several years.
