Dry Bag Drills

The Arbutus Drill Cover Provides An Affordable Surgical Drill Instrument

Hospital tools can be extremely expensive and costly to acquire which can leave impoverished countries unable to afford the proper surgical drill instruments needed to perform safe and sanitary operations. A team working at the University of British Columbia along with experts in Uganda have come together to develop a low-cost alternative drill that features a dry bag body. The design ensures that a drill from the hardware store -- that is much more affordable -- can be transformed into a hospital-grade equivalent and be rendered safe to use.

The dry bag cover ensures that the tool is waterproof and safe to use near the body. The fabric is specially cut to wrap around the spinning head that can be fitted with the surgical parts needed to perform an operation.
