'Portable Cities' Exhibit by Yin Xiuzhen Is Made From Used Clothes

Chinese multimedia artist Yin Xiuzhen creates ‘Portable Cities’ in suitcases from discarded pieces of clothing and other bits of fabric. These metropolises are part of an exhibition at the Anna Schwartz Gallery in Sydney, Australia. Here Xiuzhen created the cities of Melbourne, Jia Yu Guan and Shenzhen.

I particularly like the fabric city of Jia Yu Guan, with its desert colours and textures. The city lies on China’s Silk Road.

Xiuzhen spent some time living in Melbourne and created the city’s Federation Square and Eureka Tower, amongst other famous structures from used clothes as part of this transportable capital. I love the little rolled belt buildings.
