This disease spreads throughout the bee colonies, weakening and eventually wiping them out. There is currently no cure for this disease and the only way to stop its spread is to quarantine affected colonies.
Typically the signs of this disease can only be spotted under a microscope, but beekeeper Josh Kennett trained Bazz, his black Labrador to sniff out the disease. To prevent Bazz from getting stung, Kennett developed a protective suit that his dog can wear. The headpiece is similar the cones dogs wear after a a trip to the vet and makes Bazz look like a little four-legged astronaut. This suit will help dogs to safely work in beekeeping and put a halt to one of the most widespread bee-related diseases.
