Suffering Animal Installations

The Ninth Wave by Cai Guo-Qiang Brings Attention to Eco Crises

Dubbed The Ninth Wave, this suffering animal installation is like a rendition of 'Noah's Arc gone wrong.' It is a small fishing boat filled with suffering animals from pandas and lions to camels and horses. Although it appears to have biblical importance, in reality the suffering animal installation was created to bring attention to the current environmental and ecological crisis the world is facing.

Designed by Cai Guo-Qiang, an artist born in China and based in New York, the suffering animal installation is made up of 99 fabricated animals. Whether laying down prone or hanging their heads, they look as though they are suffering from seasickness and weariness. It floated along the Huangpu River to The Power Station of Art gallery.
