Musical Metro Turnstiles

The Subway Symphony by James Murphy Makes Commuting More Pleasant

Commuting by metro in New York City can be an unpleasant experience even on the best of days due to inefficient services, crowded trains and headache-inducing dins; the Subway Symphony hopes to change that. Former LCD Soundsystem frontman and audiophileJames Murphy has come up with a simple solution to at least one of the major problems by proposing the turnstile sounds by changed to soothing musical pieces.

Murphy explains, "Subway Symphony is a little idea I had to change the sound of the subway turnstiles into different pieces of music, depending on what station you’re entering." The concept was inspired by the subway systems in cities such as Tokyo and Barcelona. Subway Symphony may seem indirect, but it could make a world of difference.
