Pixar Displays Its Design Process Through Retrospective Sketches

Animation company Pixar is revealing its behind-the-scenes planning processes through an interactive studio exhibit in Cooper Hewitt. The collection varies from rough character sketches to more detailed portraits and idea storyboards.

Within the museum's Process Lab, visitors will be able to explore Pixar's design process and story development. Original artwork, paintings and sculptures will be on display and will provide visitors with recognizable movie memories. To build the studio exhibit, Pixar enlisted three values that they use when creating films: story, believability and appeal. To echo these principles, some of the studio's additional research is displayed like architectural research from the movie 'Up', and models of cowboy dolls for Woody from 'Toy Story.' The Process Lab will also house an interactive screen that allows visitors to delve deeper into the numerous displays and other related objects.
