These Straw Fashion Pieces were Created by Fine Arts Students in China

Students at the Central Academy of Fine Arts combined their craftsmanship with their heritage to create these straw fashion pieces. Among the many items created were bags like purses, backpacks and camera carriers. There were also pieces such as actual shirts and wearable clothing.

The graduating class of Central Academy of Fine Arts took a trip to Shandong Bo Xing, which is a city that is famous for its straw braid craft. Inspiration from the city was the fuel behind this intricate collection of straw fashion.

Using natural material such as steamed cattail, banana leaf, rattan peel, corn leaf and a few others, the students were told to create contemporary items infused with elements of the past. There were a select few items that were not wearable such as stools and chair seats, but there was still a direct link between the straw-infused work and a historical presence.
