Artist Heather Dewey-Hagborg rummages through such places as restrooms, restaurants, bus stops for stray hairs, cigarette butts, finger nail clippings and more. She then analyzes her findings to determine their genetic profile. From there, she constructs facial features that result in the Stranger Visions portraitures.
The Stranger Visions sculptures are created using a 3D printer. Currently on display at the Eyebeam Annual Showcase, Stranger Visions "calls attention to the impulse toward genetic determinism and the potential for a culture of genetic surveillance," according to her website. It is an intriguing concept that plays off of such forensic shows as CSI as well as an innate curiosity about people.
