Stevie Raelynn Johnson's latest project, 'I Did It All For You,' is an ode to the one that got away. The artist, and graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, explains that the project is essentially "twenty-nine versions of the one I couldn't forget."
The intimate series features 30 photographs of men -- both strangers and familiar faces -- in the same vulnerable pose: shirts off, arms raised, eyes looking deeply, searchingly into the camera.
In truth, it's the viewer who's searching; trying to identify the man, the original photograph, that inspired and spawned the entire series. Though the series was probably a form of catharsis for Johnson, it becomes a form of personal exploration for the viewer as well. In looking for the The One, we come to contemplate our own complex web of relationships.
