Valve Updated the Steam Deck with a Quieter Fan Standard

Valve released an update to its handheld gaming PC, the Steam Deck, that reduces the volume of the Steam Deck fan dramatically. One of the largest complaints from the few individuals lucky enough to acquire a Steam Deck is the fan noise. Simply turning on the device and sitting in the main menu, without even playing a demanding video game, produces a clearly audible fan noise.

With this new update, many forms of content on the Steam Deck are now relatively silent. The menu no longer produces a loud fan noise, and easy to run video games, such as pixelized games, no longer cause the Steam Deck fan to overpower the speakers on the device. While this update did not completely reduce the sound of the fan, and it can still be heard when running incredibly demanding games such as Elden Ring, it is a welcome change for the handheld PC market.

Additionally, iFixit launched its official, valve-certified replacement fans for the Steam Deck last week, with these fans selling out in under one week.
