Dall'Orso used the bustling streets of New York City as the backdrop for the series. Buildings, subway stations and dark alleyways are all used to portray the busy urban lifestyle as a contrast to the refined, subtle beauty found in ballet.
By taking ballet dancers out of their comfort zone and onto the street, Dall'Orso wanted to emphasize individual feelings and emotions. Typical ballet photography focuses on each dancer's physical acumen and technique, but Dall'Orso felt it was important to make a collection that humanizes these dancers.
Stage Street also takes a unique approach in photographing New York City, eliminating the bright lights and crowded streets, opting for a more peaceful and serene setting.
