The Ssangyong e-XIV Puts Hyundai and Kia on Notice

The Ssangyong e-XIV is a new electric crossover concept set to debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. For those who don’t know, Ssangyong is South Korea’s fourth largest car company. The tiny automaker is hoping to up its profile with the eco-friendly e-XIV.

e-XIV is meant to stand for 'electric-eXciting user Interface Vehicle.' All confusing abbreviations aside, the Ssangyong’s newest concept looks pretty solid. The crossover is powered by an electric motor paired to a small gas engine that acts as a range extender. The controls for the cabin are all located on a centralized interface that can be accessed via smartphone. The Ssangyong e-XIV also features a glass roof complete with a full solar panel. Don’t expect to see this car on any road anytime soon, as it appears to be strictly a design study.
