Web-Weaving Drones

These Spider Robot Drones Make Incredible Wire Structures

This spider robot is able to weave webs just like any arachnid, but fortunately it has fewer eyes, legs and all of the elements that make spiders a little creepy. But even if you find that spiders make your skin crawl, they truly are incredible insects that are capable of building incredibly light, but strong structures.

Researchers at ETH Zurich constructed a drone that is capable of emulating the way a spider builds its web, by creating complex wire structures in mid-air. What’s even more impressive about these spider drones is that they can work in unison with another spider robot.

These drones are able to maneuver quite seamlessly and this could have incredible implications for creating more organic structures that like spiderwebs, are engineering marvels.
