Solar Birdhouses

Glowing Perch by OOOMS Attracts Insects for Birds at Night

Dutch designers Karin van Lieshout and Guido Ooms at Studio OOOMS have come up with an innovative application for a small solar panel: a birdhouse with a perch that lights up at night.

Sunlight feeds the solar panel that in turn charges a small battery inside. Once the sun goes down, a transparent perch stick casts a tiny insect-attracting light.

As insects near the light, the housed bird can pop her head out the birdhouse hole and snag a tasty snack.
