This Pizza Restaurant Helps Youth Affected by Social Abandonment

This pizzeria and social enterprise employs youth that are affected by social abandonment. Founded by Alejandro Souza, Pixza is a restaurant and social empowerment platform that sells huarache-inspired blue corn pizzas and hires young people aged 18 to 25 that have been homeless, have no formal education, are addicted to drugs or were abandoned by their families at a young age -- essentially they fall under the category of social abandonment. This is a huge issue in Souza's home country of Mexico, where an estimated 15,000 to 30,000 people (including youth) live on the streets of Mexico City.

Pixza provides homeless youth with job training and life skills through a program that involves accepting a free slice of pizza from a Pixza employee. For every five slices sold, a sixth is set aside to be taken to a shelter.
