Smartphone-Reliant Lamps

The UpLamp Smartphone Lamp Does Not Require a Light Bulb

The UpLamp is a smartphone lamp that describes itself as "the first lamp-less light."

Designed to be compatible with iPhones and Samsung Galaxy phones, this smartphone lamp works by taking the LED light from the phone and distributing it so it is not as concentrated and therefore creates a glow in the device. The device can be controlled with the phone or with the user's movements -- clapping your hands will result in the lamp turning on or off and waving your hand in front of the smartphone lamp will dim the light. The lamp can detect movement and after 30 minutes of not detecting any it will turn itself off. It comes in yellow, blue, white and pink colors.

While not the most practical in terms of draining battery life, this lamp's automatic features could make it a useful bedside lamp.
