The SmartMat is a doormat with Wi-Fi connectivity and a pressure sensor that can send alerts and notifications when someone or something steps on it.
For example, users can configure the SmartMat to send them a text message when their pet is sitting on it or when the mailman leaves a package on it. The SmartMat can even be programmed to tweet at users.
The SmartMat is made from pressure-sensitive plastic film sandwiched between two conductive polymer film layers. A heat-sealed weatherproof outer layer protects the inner components. The mat has a WiFi-enabled micro controller that collects and processes data and allows the mat to connect to a home internet network.
Data collected by the mat is send to a cloud-based server that can do things such as send email or text alerts based on specific conditions.
