Adaptive Education-Specific E-Books

McGraw-Hill Creates Smart Textbook Finding Student Weaknesses

By spring of this year, McGraw-Hill will be offering a smart textbook e-reader that actually adapts to students' learning patterns. Instead of a textbook that simply houses information about a given topic, this smart textbook e-reader actually prompts students with questions about the content as they read.

Based on the answers provided to these questions, the e-reader can then identify weaknesses in the student's comprehension of the material and know which areas to reinforce and which information has been digested enough already.

The system will be available for over 90 course areas and cost $20. The smart textbook won't just be about text though. As the system identifies areas of weakness in the student, it will also present images and videos to help communicate the content.
