Sharable Bifold Desktops

Slate2 by Kimberly Andersson Encourages the Communal Aspect of Learning

The road to becoming educated is not paved with textbooks and lined with independent study carrels. A project called Slate2 by Kimberly Andersson aims to reenforce this fact and offer a solution to truly inspire young learners.

It begins with two chalkboard-coated masonite panels which sit within a pliable Santoprene frame and can be folded together into a portable sleeve with a handle. Additional papers can be kept within the A4-sized portfolio, lessening the need for heavy backpacks amongst primary school students.

The erasable surface is constantly wiped clean and replaced with new lessons which can be shared with members of the child's family at home. In the classroom setting, Slate2 by Kimberly Andersson is incorporated into lightweight wood and metal desks. These are ideal for partnered assignments whereby kids can cooperate with a single set of panels slung over joint writing surfaces.
