Temporary Modular Skateparks

Jira Jira Collective's Skatepark Design is Mobile and Portable

In a move that will likely appease local councils opposed to permanent concrete skateparks, this modular skatepark design allows urban obstacles to be added to existing structures on a temporary basis. Based in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, the Jira Jira Collective created nine mobile pieces that can be arranged to create a truly portable skatepark for boarding enthusiasts. It also addresses concerns permanent facilities can raise.

Conceived by Dario Goldbach and Martijn Hartwig as a design project for Willem de Koonig Academy, the skatepark design enables pieces to be attached to things like trash cans and billboards. They were also decorated by Vincent Blok and Leon Karssen.

This is one way different cultures and lifestyles can co-exist in the same shared, recreational space.
