Professional skater Bob Burnquist has skated on every kind of surface conceivable, but he's outdone even himself by enjoying a leisurely skate on a floating skate ramp in the middle of Lake Tahoe in California.
The project came about when the California tourism authorities asked Burnquist to dream big and try something new for a tourism promotion video for the region. So Burnquist and his team decided to combine two of California's best-known features -- water and skateboarding -- and create a floating skate ramp.
The 7,300 pound ramp took 300 man hours to build, and is held together by 1,250 screws. Given that this is the first floating skate ramp ever built, the designers had to make sure it would float stably and not rock too much.
The ramp worked perfectly well, and Burnquist looked to be having the time of his life skating on a ramp in the middle of the spectacular sparkling waters of Lake Tahoe.
