These rings were created for the 2013 Red Dot Design contest by Cao Zu-Wei, Hu Ya-Chun, Huang Ching-Lan, Liao Po-Yang, Tsai Yu-Chi and Yang Yi-Hsien. The designer dream team envisioned a bracelet and rings that would translate sign language into speech and speech into text.
The look of the Sign Language Ring was inspired by Buddhist prayer beads, and the system itself consists of a bracelet and six rings. The bracelet acts as a speaker for the translated text and as a display for the spoken text made readable; the rings are used to translate the gestures of the fingers.
