Curled Lumber Cabins

The Shoffice Organically Blends into a Backyard Like a Large Hollowed-Out Log

The Shoffice demonstrates the accessibility of abstract architectural expression where smaller projects are concerned. Commissioned to create a simple external den, Platform 5 Architects was able to dream up a dramatic form that would enhance a private plot and bring inspiration to the space inside.

Two steel ring beams support the elliptical structure of the sculptural shack that's clad completely in lumber, outside and inside with warm oak wood. The naturally influenced shape of the project even extends one end outwards across the grass to give the Shoffice the appearance of a giant pencil shaving. Glass windows, skylights and sliding doors enclose the enchanting workspace while allowing sunlight to pour inside. The small contemporary edifice stands in sharp contrast to the St. John’s Wood brick dwelling that was built in the 1950s.
