Water Rental Services

SWIIM is Like Airbnb for Sharing Water with Those in Need

SWIIM (Sustainable Water and Innovative Irrigation Management) is a tool for sharing water that's quickly become known as an Airbnb-like service for farmers. SWIIM makes it possible for farmers to earn extra money by selling or leasing surplus water to others in need.

The software from SWIIM is able to do this thanks to satellite imagery and algorithms developed with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Armed with these tools, farmers are easily able to see how much water they are using on their own fields. In addition to being a tool for sharing water, farmers also get insights into the kinds of crops that are best for their land, the yields they can expect from harvests and even what kind of water they should be using on crops.

As of now, SWIIM is in use in Colorado and will be expanding to problem areas like California, which is prone to droughts and agriculture accounts for 80% of the state's water use.
