Ghostly Light Fixtures

The Shade Lamp by Paul Cocksedge Looks to Hover in Mid-Air

The Shade Lamp looks as though it is hovering in mid air. A ghostly presence in the home, it is more of a magician's trick than a supernatural occurrence, however. That is because there is an easy explanation to the Shade Lamp's floating appearance. It is suspended by near invisible wires.

Designed by London-based Paul Cocksedge Studio, the Shade Lamp was created for FLOS. Comprised of just the shade, hence its name, the Shade Lamp is devoid of an attached light source. Instead it receives its light from an LED floor fitting. The designer writes, "Shade started as a purely practical problem, how to rid ourselves the clutter usually connected to light fittings."

Made out of paper, the Shape Lamp debuted during the Salone del Mobile 2013.
