Seeing-Eye Horses are Having Their Hay Day

After a promising Senate vote in Illinois, seeing-eye horses are becoming a more realistic option for those with disabilities. A surprisingly feasible alternative to seeing-eye dogs, the mini-mammals are making headlines.

The horses, which are not much larger than dogs, are quickly gaining attention as unlikely candidates for the important job. There is an amazing amount of information to support the change from canines to miniature horses. Some convincing arguments have been put forth to convince people to switch over; for instance, a miniature horse can live up until they are 50 years old and tend to have better vision than a dog.

Certainly not as easy sell, it's interesting and promising to see developments seeking to improve the lives of sight-impaired individuals. Only time will tell if more people will switch to a miniature guide horse; until then, it's comforting to know that there are more guide options available.
