Idling Smartphone Medical Apps

This Swedish Medical App Works While Your Phone is Sleeping

'Screen Donor' is a mobile app that takes advantage of the rare moments that our smartphones are not being used. Created by Doctors of the World, an international humanitarian organization, the app displays important information about the organization when an iPhone has been placed in sleep mode. The Swedish chapter of the organization lacked the funds needed for a traditional ad campaign, so the app was created as a means of marketing the organization to the public.

Nowadays it has become very commonplace to leave your cellphone sitting on a table while out eating dinner in a restaurant, sitting in a classroom or even while you sit in a work meeting. Doctors of the World is hoping that people will be willing to accept the reduction in battery life that results from running their app in order to connect others with access to healthcare. Screen Donor is available for download in the App Store.
