The 'Scorpion 3 Hoverbike' is Being Tested by the Dubai Police Force

For decades, flying cars have been one of the cliched staples of a distant future society, but the Scorpion 3 Hoverbike is proof that that future world isn't as far off as people might imagine. The vehicle, which is designed by Russian company Hoversurf, is a single-passenger motorbike that uses a propeller system similar to quadcopter drones to let riders fly.

The Scorpion 3 Hoverbike has a range of 21 kilometers, with between 20 and 40 minutes of flying time on a single charge. Its batteries charge in three hours, but they can be swapped out in a minute or less, so riders need not spend too much time on the ground.

Beyond a concept or prototype, the vehicle might be used in the immediate future. The Dubai police force has reportedly tested it for use in monitoring large, highly trafficked areas, and it's available for consumer purchase through Hoversurf's website.
