Boston Dynamics has just created "the most advanced quadruped robot on Earth".

The freaky machine, called Big Dog, can across rocky ground and deal with a sharp kick. The project is sponsored by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), who want the robot to assist soldiers in terrain too tough for vehicles. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but the scenery from the Matrix movie may not be as far as we think since it can follow a simple path on its own...
