Sci-Fi Holiday Sculptures

Santa the Hutt Brings Christmas to Tatooine

Santa Claus has always been chided for his weight, but no one has gone as far as artist Cianna Valley with her Santa the Hutt sculpture. The sculpture is, if you hadn’t guessed it, a cross between old Saint Nick and Jabba the Hutt from Star Wars. Valley’s sculpture currently resides in the San Francisco Betabrand store and is available to pose for pictures with customers.

Santa the Hutt is incredibly detailed. From his face to his many fat rolls, the sculpture looks pretty darn close to being real. The artwork appears to be a tongue-in-cheek reference to the holiday icon’s weight. Regardless, it is interesting to note that this is not the first depiction of Santa Claus as morbidly obese. Here’s hoping retailers and others get the hint and start subtly slimming down Santa in years to come.
