Sand Castle Hotels

This Dutch Sand Hotel was Created as an Entry in a Sand Castle Contest

From the outside, this sand hotel in the Netherlands looks like a giant, beautifully sculpted sand castle. On the inside, however, it's a hotel you can actually stay in.

The Zand Hotel was created as part of the Zandsculpturen Festival in Friesland, Netherlands. While it may appear to be just like any of the other elaborate entries into the international competition, it is in fact a sand hotel with 60 rooms that visitors to the festival can stay in. The sand hotel took four weeks to build and was created by event organizers from Global PowWow. The furniture isn't made of sand, but the walls, ceilings and floors of the imaginative sand hotel are.

The Zand Hotel follows in the tradition of other famous novelty hotels, like the Hotel de Glace (Ice Hotel) in Quebec city.
