A New York-based company called Re-Tread has come up with a new use for recycled tires. The Tire Logs (which are being used to help rebuild in areas hit hardest by the earthquake in Haiti) debuted last week at the Greener By Design conference in San Francisco.
Re-Tread CEO Tom Hanson says the rubber logs have a variety of uses, including "retaining walls, highway noise barriers, sandbag replacements for erosion control and security barricades." Also, the rubber logs can withstand changes and deformations much better than other materials which is advantageous for areas prone to earthquakes.
