The Ross Lovegrove designed 'Solar Tree' soaks up the energy of the sun during the day and sprays it out at night.
The design not only mimics a tree aesthetically speaking but also functionally. The leaves, so to speak, of the Solar Tree incorporate solar panels and LEDs that work in conjunction with one another to transform solar energy into light, in a process reminiscent of photosynthesis. This process is quite reliable as well.
The Solar Tree can send its excess energy into a power-grid and operate independently for up to three days. This breathless fusion of form and function is sure to please both both environmentalists and public art enthusiasts. The installation will bring light to London's St. John's square just in time for the 2012 Clerkenwell Design Week.
