Pollutant-Packed Rings

Dan Roosegaarde's 'Smog Ring' Contains Compressed Smog Particles

For several months now, Dutch designer and innovator Daan Roosegarde and his team have been in the process of developing a sustainable smog-sucking installation to extract smog from Beijing's notoriously polluted air. Now, Roosegaarde and his team announced that they won't even let the smog particles go to waste, and will compress them to create diamonds which will be set in high-end rings.

The smog-sucking installation uses patented ion technology to create large holes of clean air by drawing smog particles to the ground and collecting them. By incorporating the smog particles into beautiful rings, Roosegaarde hopes to remind people of the tangible nature of smog and create awareness.

The compressed smog particles in the ring look like a dusty black powder but are actually breathed in by people. Embedding these dangerous particles in an eye-catching ring ensures that people are made aware of the dangers of smog and other pollutants.
